An Early Career Highlight: My Time on BBC ‘Two Greedy Italians’

Before launching Your Italy Fixer, I spent two decades working as a TV producer and director in the UK - and some of my most treasured memories come from one of my earliest roles: working as a junior producer on the BBC’s Two Greedy Italians.

Presented by the late, great Antonio Carluccio and the unforgettable Gennaro Contaldo, Two Greedy Italians wasn’t just another food and travel show - it was a celebration of identity, memory and the enduring soul of Italian culture. As a young producer, being part of that team was nothing short of life-changing.

Antonio and Gennaro were legends - not just of Italian food, but of British television. Their passion for food, people and storytelling was infectious. They brought warmth, wit and deep emotion to every shoot. Watching them interact - bickering one moment, embracing the next - was pure magic. They had an unfiltered honesty and a profound love for their roots that shaped every frame of the series.

Two men sit on a boat on a beach, smiling and eating ice cream cones. The ocean is in the background, and the sky is clear. The late, great Antonio Carluccio and the unforgettable Gennaro Contaldo.

It was also the first time I worked with director Ian Denyer, who brought thoughtfulness, humour and editorial elegance to the entire production. Ian is without doubt one of the best people in TV - an incredible storyteller with a generous heart. His creative leadership set the tone for a warm and truly unforgettable series.

For me, this was more than a job. It was an education in how food connects to family, how landscapes tell stories and how authenticity always resonates. It taught me the importance of tone, texture and patience in storytelling - lessons I carry with me to every production I now support through Your Italy Fixer.

Working with Antonio and Gennaro remains, without a doubt, the most inspirational experience of my career. They were the best talent I’ve ever worked with and I feel incredibly lucky to have learned from them so early on. To this day, I carry their spirit - passionate, generous, hungry for meaning - into everything I do.
